Hide//Seek//Difference//Desire//Northwest

On May 12, 2012 join the Space Tacoma and Queering the Museum project in the opening of Hide//Seek//Difference//Desire//Northwest, a queer art exhibit that explores the themes of same sex desire in American art at The Space Tacoma. Doors open at 7:30 pm with performances by Tender Forever.

Hide//Seek//Difference//Desire//Northwest is a local level response to the nationally traveling exhibit Hide/Seek: Difference and desire in American Portraiture currently on display at the Tacoma Art Museum. The exhibit features 19 local artists from the Pacific Northwest, creating a PNW portrait of queer culture, exploring themes of same sex desire.

The opening of the Hide//Seek//Difference//Desire//Northwest will be curated by Erin Bailey, co founder of Queering the Museum project (QTM). QTM is a coordinated intervention into representations of LGBT/Q people in museums. QTM facilitates critical dialogue between community members and museum practitioners addressing the role that museums play in forming social norms around gender and sexuality. QTM seeks to continue working on the inclusion of queer culture in museum exhibits and programs with a queer history exhibit and digital storytelling project.
